Dr. Phil Biography, Early Life
Dr. Phil, full name Phillip Calvin McGraw, was born on 1 September 1950 in America. There were a total of 5 members in this family including parents and two elder sisters.
Dr. Phil grew up with his elder sisters, so he spent his entire childhood with his sisters. From the beginning, Dr. Phil was always interested in thinking differently and inventing new technology and new and different types of curiosity always kept arising in his mind, a few years later it was the year 1963 – 64 when Dr. Phil started working at a local shop named Pizza Planet at the age of just 13, so the person who is currently the author of various books and a famous psychologist all over the world had started his career at the age of 13.
He gained the most popularity through Dr. Phil (talk show). He hosted this show and also expressed his views on social and economic conditions. This was the show that presented facts about crime and Dr. Phil worked on unsolved cases as a psychologist and helped solve the puzzles and bring the case to its conclusion.
He received a doctorate in clinical psychology from Texas American University and practised psychology for a license.
His father’s name was Joseph J. McGraw who worked as an equipment supplier and his mother Anne Geraldine was a housewife.
He had decided on his life path from an early age, so he planned to become a psychologist at the age of 14 and to fulfil it, he left for Kansas with his father. Here he started schooling from Shawnee Mission North High School and later participated in the high school football team and performed brilliantly, became the best player of the football team, as a result of which he was also awarded a football scholarship by the University of Tulsa.

After completing his schooling, he applied for a BA in Psychology from Midwestern State University of Texas, USA, after which he got admission to the BA, batch of 1973-74. After passing the three-year bachelor’s degree, he took an MA in experimental psychology in 1976.
After completing his master’s degree, Dr. Phil took admission in PhD in clinical psychology and in 1979, after completing all his education, he emerged as a psychologist, meanwhile, he also took postdoctoral training in forensic psychology from Wilmington Institute.
One name always came up in his biography and that name is “Frank Lawlis”. Actually Frank Lawlis was Dr. Phil’s doctoral advisor who later became the primary contributing psychologist of Dr. Phil’s television show and due to this reason, this name was associated with him.
Well, after completing his doctorate degree, he started private psychology practice, around the year 1985, Dr. Phil alias McGraw started a company with his father and started working. After about 6 years, he sold the shares of his company.
Meanwhile, he also established various science labs, centres etc. and helped in legal action. His television career started in 2000. In the year 2002, he started his own television show by establishing Peteski Productions and since then he has had a different identity on television. About 3 years before starting the television show, he became famous as a writer. He wrote his first book in 1999 which was based on human life. Later he also wrote other famous books.
Dr. Phil also started a podcast. You can listen to his podcast on Spotify. In the year 2008, he started being active on social media platforms and in December 2008, he presented his first video through YouTube. This video was uploaded with the title name Dr. Phil isms. Currently, his channel has more than 63 lakh subscribers.
